Moose spoted the 2024 season

We've seen more moose than safari guests this season. That's what we call eco tourism!

The Moose Safari Experience

A evening tour

The moose are nocturnal and rest during the day. At dusk, the moose start to move from the deepest forests under the protection of dark. Bewitching shadows are cast by tall pine trees as we hike through the forest: up over high hills and down through low valleys. In twilight, mist the Swedish national symbol strides majestically through its wild environment. The moose come to the small lake to drink or to swim to the other side. We will be there watching the giant animals.

Wilderness picnic meal

During the safari a stop will be made at one of the many lakes in the Nature Reserve, were a wilderness picnic meal will be served. To the picnic we listen to an experienced and knowledgeable moose guide who let us know about the moose and many other wild animals in the forest.

The Hike

When the moose hike starts everyone has to be absolutely silent. Then we only communicate with sign language (a necessary condition if we are to see the shy and majestic animals).
The hike is not physically demanding. We hike very carefully and with as little noise as possible during the 1-1.5 hour hike. The safaris finish with a minibus tour, in which we visit other favorite spots of the moose.

Minibus tour

We have a lot of experience in moose watching and we always see several moose on each safari. On Nordic Discovery's worst safari (during 21 years of moose safari arrangements), 1 moose was watched. On the best safari, 34 moose were seen (during the "safari season" from 1st of May to 30th of September).

Start and finish time

To maximize the chances of success, the start time depends on the time of sunset, causing the start and finish times to vary throughout the season. We begin the journey a few hours before sunset and conclude in total darkness.

Equipment

Rain gear (in case of rain or as a backup against rain) and warmer clothes to put on after sunset when the temperature often drops. Water-resistant shoes are recommended. Binoculars will be provided on the tour. If you have your own binoculars, it is recommended to bring them.

Small groups

On our tours, we keep our groups small to give you the best chance of spotting wild animals. Each guide leads a group of just 2-8 guests, ensuring a personalized experience. Typically, there is one group per safari, but if we have two, we divide them into different areas to increase your chances of exciting wildlife encounters.

High season

The safari is arranged on Saturdays from the 1st of May to the 30th of September. Additional safaris on other days can be arranged after bookings.
Parties of 4 or more participants have the option to book the safari on alternative dates throughout the year. For parties of 2-3 participants seeking a safari outside of the scheduled dates, please notify us in advance, and we will explore the possibility of making arrangements.

Low season

During the low season (October 1st to April 30th), moose follow different living patterns, so the high sighting rates typical of the high season may not be expected.

Accommodation

When you book a moose safari with accommodation, you will stay at the cozy Wilderness Lodge in Kloten. Linen and breakfast are included in the package. Start your day with our delicious breakfast buffet, which includes fresh bread, croissants, cheese, ham, eggs, yogurt, cereals, juice, hot chocolate, coffee, and tea. Experience the perfect blend of adventure and comfort in the heart of the Swedish wilderness.
